Canary- and pigeonkeeper Michel Souiri, originally from Morocco, has grown to a successful macaw breeder with years of experience and an extensive collection of rare macaw's. Hyacint International B.V. is established in a country-house in Haarsteeg with very spacious residences for the many kinds of birdcouples; among them are blue and yellow macaw's (ara ararauna), velvet blue hyacynthine macaw (anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), military macaw (ara militaris) velvet yellow scarlet macaw (ara macao), red cheeked macaw (ara rubrogenys) and dwarf macaw's, grey parrots (psittacus erithacus), different amazon parrots and different cockatoo's. The macaw's, which are bred with much patience, attention and love, are sold to zoo's and collectors.

Much patience, because the breeding of the beautiful macaw's costs a great amount of time and requires a lot of experience. It can take up to 8 years for a macaw couple to get accustomed to each other and start breeding. Much attention and love, because it's important for the birds to know their caretaker well and trust him completely. Even a special menu is prepared for each couple, and the birds are carefully monitored.

The macaw's are housed in modern cells, which can be entirely closed for rest, with plenty of climbing space, freedom of movement and nesting-boxes. Most kinds of parrots are on the list of protected birds; import of these species is therefor prohibited. Because of this, the macaw's which represent the largest of the parrots, are bred in the Netherlands.
